There was a record attendance of nearly 9,000 people attending the two-day event in Edison, New Jersey on May 15 and 16, 2012. Cosmetic chemists, suppliers, and students primarily from the New York and New Jersey area visited the event with 5,500 people on Day 1 and 3,500 people on Day 2. Attendees crowded the show floor to learn more about the products and services from over 350 companies. For the first time, Supplier’s Day included a new section at the show entitled “Torch of Technology – A New Technology Showcase”. This addition to the show gave suppliers the opportunity to showcase their technologies and products. The Evonik Personal Care Team was present at Supplier’s Day under the theme “New Directions, New Beauty” and we showcased five new products across two categories – “Leave-On” and “Rinse-Off”. The Evonik Team also hosted a reception on the first night in which close to 150 people attended and interacted with our Commercial and Technical personnel. TEGO® Feel Green was one of the products that were showcased at Supplier’s Day. It is an all natural cellulose powder for a pleasant skin feel and is based on 100% renewable sources. The odorless, soft white powder provides a homogeneous texture and a better integrity while distributed through the final formulation. It provides a fast absorption and leaves a drier after feel with reduced greasiness, especially for formulations containing high amounts of humectants. The use of this eco-friendly material leads to a harmonic texture, which is particularly pronounced for light and/or gel formulations. TEGOLON® ECO 10-10 is another Leave-On product in which it is the first cosmetic Nylon-10/10 powder that is fully vegetable-based. This product is sourced from the castor oil plant and the fine, porous particles offer high oil absorption and a pleasant skin feel. The eco-friendly material is especially suitable for color cosmetic formulations. ABIL® ME 45 was one of the Rinse-Off Products publicized at the show and it is easy to use with multiple benefits as a silicone conditioning agent. The PEG and preservative free microemulsion significantly improves the wash quickness of dyed hair and shows outstanding heat protection properties. ABIL® Soft AF 300 is a high performance aminopropyl dimethicone. The higher molecular weight provides significantly improved conditioning and softening properties to hair care products. Another Rinse-Off product that was introduced was TEGO® Carbomer 750 HD. The high density powder disperses efficiently in water and features a fast processing time without lump formation. Due to its high electrolyte tolerance and good suspending properties, the product is well suited for use in a variety of surfactant system and clear gels. The Supplier’s Day event generated over 70 new contacts and hosted over 30 scheduled meetings with our customers, and this does not take into consideration of the numerous conversations at the booth due to the large amount of “foot” traffic. One of the biggest successes at the Event was the Move 360 Interactive Touch Screen. Move 360 is an innovation and sustainability support program that offers our customers the leading edge in sustainability in their own processes and formulations.
“A significant amount of new definitions on Natural and Green Technologies was being displayed at the 2012 Show and it was encouraging to observe the creativity of the different synthesis routes to these new products, including the reduction of waste in the production process” reported Anna Howe, Evonik Manager of Applied Technology for Personal Care. Natural raw materials/products and Green Technology was one of the unofficial major themes from the NYSCC Supplier’s Day this year. Evonik was well positioned for this theme in regards to our product offerings and sustainability initiatives. “Customers are becoming more aware of the formulations and raw materials that are being utilized in their favorite beauty and grooming products and this educational process is allowing Evonik to become the premier solution provider to the Industry” commented Paul Washlock, Personal Care Business Line Director for NAFTA.
