TEGO® Turmerone - The Golden Spice of India

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a plant of the ginger family and is native to tropical South Asia.

In medieval Europe, turmeric became known as “Indian Saffron”, since it was widely used as an alternative to the far more expensive saffron spice.

In Ayurvedic practices, turmeric has many medicinal properties and many in South Asia use it as a readily available antiseptic for cuts, burns and bruises. It is also used as an antibacterial agent. In addition to its Ayurvedic properties, turmeric has been used for a long time in India in a wide variety of skin creams. Turmeric paste is applied during Indian weddings on the face of the bride for beautifying & enriched skin complexion.

The business line Care Specialties of Evonik now offers the purified and standardized Turmeric Oil extract TEGO® Turmerone (INCI: Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract) for a wide range of cosmetic applications such as anti-aging formulations, face care for even skin tone, sun care, baby care and men’s care for dull & tired skin.

TEGO® Turmerone is natural plant extract based on a molecular distillation process, which has significant anti-oxidant activity. An in vitro expression analysis has shown that it induces endogenous cellular defence mechanisms against oxidative stress. As oxidative stress is one of the parameters which can lead to skin ageing it is important to increase the components of body’s inherent anti-oxidative system. It is ideal to formulate products for the improvement of skin radiance and evenness of skin tone and also reduces the appearance of wrinkles in face care products which has been proven by an in vivo study. The patent filed TEGO® Turmerone is approved by ECOCERT.
