Perpetuating Beauty through Protection
The business unit Consumer Specialties of Evonik Industries will be presenting its portfolio of its business line Personal Care at this years sunscreen symposium in Disney's Contemporary Resort from September 9th to 12th.
The Personal Care product portfolio consists of a unique and comprehensive range of organic and silicone based specialities especially designed as raw materials for personal care products and active ingredients for the protection of skin and hair. Its new product ABIL® Care XL 80, a novel silicone based emulsifier, providing an outstanding performance, as well as a portfolio of active ingredients will be featured on this table top exhibition.
Another contribution to the event will be made by Dr. Oliver Springer, R&D Manager at Evonik Goldschmidt GmbH in presenting “The Route to New Emollients for Sunscreen Formulations”.
Emollients form the major part of the oil phase of a personal care formulation and largely determine its properties. Especially in the sun care formulations of today, it is a necessity that the emollients are multifunctional: i.e. by delivering a pleasant skin feels while at the same time displaying excellent solubilization and dispersion properties. Both aspects play an important role during new product development for this application area.
This presentation will describe the strategies the business line Personal Care uses to identify innovative emollients. Also a closer look will be taken at the tools that are used for their evaluation and use in personal care formulations, focusing primarily on sun care formulations. These tools include an optimized method for the screening of solubilizers which are commonly used for organic UV filters. It will be demonstrated how this can lead to the development of new derivatives even under growing pressure also from the toxicological and environmental side.
In conclusion one interesting and new ingredient resulting from this approach will be featured. Evonik's business line will highlight the properties it brings to personal care formulations comprising sunscreen and other cosmetic applications.
Furthermore Anna Howe, Applied Technology Manager, Evonik Goldschmidt Corporation North America will present a Technology Poster on Combining Sustainability Performance featuring Polyglycerol Technology, ISOLAN® GPS, TEGO® Care 450 and TEGO® Care LTP.
