innovative textures for a vibrant skin feeling

With innovative textures for a vibrant skin feeling, consumers can enjoy their daily beauty routine even more. Creams, for example, which transform into a nurturing oil film or into milk like droplets on contact with the skin, offer additional stimuli for the senses. The trend toward such transforming textures originated in Asia and has caught on very quickly: In 2016, half of all new skin care products worldwide fell into this category.

Evonik has created a portfolio of sample formulas for care products with diverse textures which reflect customer preferences from various parts of the world. These have been developed by cosmetics specialists in the applied technology labs in the various regions, who have taken advantage of the effectiveness and range of applications of the different emulsifiers produced by Evonik.

Three of these formulations were presented at in-cosmetics 2017 and were honored with the Sensory Award in Bronze as an innovative concept: “Luxurious Whipped Cream” from the applied technology lab in China, which feels as its name suggests, is very easy to apply and is absorbed quickly. The O/W emulsifier ABIL® Care XL 80 provides a velvety-silky skin feel when applied. “Magic Cream to Milk”, which also originates from Asia, produces milk-like droplets on the skin which provide a pleasant experience to consumers. In this formulation too, ABIL® EM 180 plays a key role.

“Caring Oil Release Cream,” developed in Germany, is aimed more at the needs of European consumers. It leaves a protective and nurturing oil layer on the skin. The key ingredient here is TEGO® Care 450, a versatile, PEG-free emulsifier, suitable for cosmetic O/W creams and lotions.

The “Complex sensations, easy formulating” concept covers an initial selection of exciting, easy-to-implement sample formulations. Work on the concept will continue in the Evonik application technology labs – taking account of the various regional trends.
