Bottle your sustainability goals

Minimize your environmental footprint with our emollients

A series of converging market trends are redefining how consumers value their cosmetic products. Increasingly, they are interested in solutions that can not only deliver the desired skin feeling but also enable a sustainable future for us all.

  • IN THE UK 79% OF ADULTS FEEL PERSONAL CARE BRANDS NEED TO PUT MORE EFFORT INTO ETHICAL AND SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION
  • 80% OF GEN Z GLOBALLY FEEL THAT COMPANIES SHOULD HELP THE ENVIRONMENT
  • IN CHINA 68% OF ADULTS WANT BRANDS AND COMPANIES TO SUPPORT ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
  • 48% OF POLISH CONSUMERS AGREE THAT AN ETHICAL BEAUTY BRAND (E.G. ECO-FRIENDLY, FAIRTRADE-CERTIFIED) IS WORTH PAYING MORE FOR

These consumer needs go hand in hand with one of the latest macrotrends that we see in the beauty industry: minimizing the environmental footprint of a beauty product. One aspect to achieve this is the reduction of CO2 emissions, a topic more and more cosmetic producers are evaluating.

HOW TO IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROFILE OF YOUR FORMULATION

The growing importance of this sustainability challenge has motivated us to generate new data for our emollients, produced by a unique enzymatic process, and a prime example of green chemistry. Through this special synthesis e.g. waste can be prevented and less energy is used. Both parameters support today’s sustainability approach.
Recent enhancements to this eco-efficient process have ensured that it is fully reliant on renewable energy sources. The life cycle assessment (LCA) we conducted on TEGOSOFT® MM MB reported a 100% reduction in our CO2 footprint compared to conventional chemical production process.

As a second step we took a completely new approach and evaluated via another LCA the implications of the ingredient types in a typical O/W cream. By converting to Evonik’s enzymatic emollients (e.g. TEGOSOFT® CR MB, TEGOSOFT® DC MB or TEGOSOFT® OER MB) in the tested final formulation, an improved impact on global warming by 67% lower CO2 footprint compared to using conventional chemical emollients is achievable.

FROM TODAY TO TOMORROW

This significant reduction in CO2 represents a major step towards the goal of formulating modern beauty products that minimize the consequences for the environment. With this new data for our enzymatic emollients, you now have an attractive option to develop sustainable brands that are consumer preferred and highly differentiated.

Are you seeking to develop new formulations that reflect this latest trend in beauty and sustainability? We are ready to discuss how we can work together to achieve our common goals.
